New Volume on Paul’s Epistle to Romans
Late last week I received my copy of a new and large volume on Paul’s epistle to the Romans: Richard N. Longenecker, Introducing Romans: Critical Issues in Paul’s Most Famous Letter (Eerdmans, 2011). xxxviii + 490 pp.
This volume serves as the introduction also for the commentary on Romans that Longenecker is producing. It allowed him to address the many critical issues at length. He’s a seasoned NT scholar (indeed, a teacher of mine in a couple of courses many years ago), and so he brings to his discussion decades of reading and thought. I haven’t read all of it, but what I’ve perused indicates that his discussion is up to date in the coverage of scholarly publications and current issues. So, whether convinced by his particular views or not, this book will serve readers as an excellent roadmap of scholarly issues on Romans.
