New NT Manuscripts–Continued

March 7, 2012

With thanks to Tommy Wasserman, I post a link to a recent interview with Dan Wallace in which he comments just a bit further (though still hesitantly as to details) about the recently mooted new NT papyri.

On Saturday, 3 March, I went out of curiosity to part of a conference held locally featuring Josh McDowell talking about evidences for the trustworthiness of the Bible. He mentioned having been in on a work session in which some of these fragments were identified. From his discussion of the process (separating scrappy bits of papyrus that were stuck together in layers), it sounds as though Mr. Green may have purchased some cartonnage, in which case we probably talking about tiny fragments. In response to a question from the audience about dating, he said there were bits of a dated document included in the layers. Of course, even if this is the case, the dated document wouldn’t tell us much about the date when it was included in the make-up of the cartonnage, nor about the date of the putative fragments of Mark and Paul. What may be the most curious thing of all is why Josh McDowell would be invited to a work session on early papyrus documents!
