Away to “Down Under”
Tomorrow (19th July) I head off to Perth, Australia, to take part in a special symposium sponsored by Trinity Theological College there on “The Appropriation of Scripture in the Emergence of Christianity.” More information on the symposium can be had here.
My own assigned task is to address key biblical (OT) passages in earliest christological developments. I’ll focus on two case studies: Psalm 110 and Isaiah 45:22-25. Both were appropriated so early that the christological reading of them is presumed in our earliest Christian texts (Paul’s letters). Neither seems to have been used prominently in second-temple Jewish tradition. And the early Christian appropriation of each of them is highly novel and remarkable.
So, from tomorrow until late next week I’ll likely be out of action on this blog site. Readers and commentors be patient, therefore, please!
