September 12, 2012

The Centre for the Study of Christian Origins (CSCO, University of Edinburgh) announces a conference focused on the Apostle Peter to be held in New College Edinburgh 4-6 July 2013.   The conference will feature invited presentations by Timothy Barnes, Markus Bockmuehl, Sean Freyne, Peter Lampe, Tobias Nicklas, Margaret Williams, and myself.  Here is the conference flyer.

Within the next week or so, we aim to have online registration/payment set up.  For more information, including offering short-papers, here is the email contact:  divinity-csco@ed.ac.uk.

Those so minded coming from near and/or far will be able to take in our Peter conference and then the International Society of Biblical Literature Conference in St. Andrews (just around the coast from Edinburgh), 8-11 July.

This and other events sponsored by CSCO and announced and described on the CSCO blog-site:  http://christianorigins.co.uk/

This sounds like a good summer to try to get back to Edinburgh. I need to start selling donuts again.

  2. Yes, St Andrews is just around the coast, but you can of course get there much more quickly by not going around the coast. For example, it is about 1 hour 15 mins by train to Leuchars.

  3. Exciting. I will aim to be there!

Nicely timed with the SBL conference in St Andrews on the 7 July too.

Peter is really getting a lot of attention all of a sudden. We have had Hengel, Bockmuehl and (in a few weeks) Larry Helyer all producing books on the historical Peter within the past couple of years. You wait for a bus and all of sudden three come at once…
